Record-setting June in store for Camp Guernsey
May 29, 2018
Camp Guernsey Joint Training Center celebrates its 80th year this June, and with that landmark anniversary, will host a record-setting number of soldiers, airmen, and law enforcement personnel.
Look for increased traffic on the streets of Guernsey and increased sales for local businesses. Occasional road closures will be imposed during live artillery firing at the North Training Area, primarily in the June 5-13 timeframe.
Two major Army National Guard exercises, conducted by the South Dakota Army National Guard and the Arkansas Army National Guard will bring the majority of the soldiers to Guernsey to hone their warfighting skills. Several Wyoming units are conducting training as well as augmenting the visiting units’ forces.
Camp staff will remain busy providing the world-class services and training areas that consistently earn them national recognition, and are looking forward to the challenge.
Safety and fire prevention are top priorities for the staff. Increased efforts to mitigate hazards have been ongoing for months in preparation for the influx of service members, and with that will be an increase of Wyoming military personnel, many of whom are trained to fight wildfires and conduct other safety measures.
