May 9, 2017
The Cheyenne Trophy for 2016 was awarded to the 153rd Airlift Wing, Wyoming Air National Guard Security Forces Squadron and the Wyoming Army National Guard’s, G Company, 2-211th General Support Aviation Battalion, during a May 5 ceremony in Cheyenne.
The Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee presented the trophy to the 153rd SFS for their actions while deployed in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel and North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s Resolute Support missions.
Members of the SFS were responsible for protecting personnel and property during a number of missions from Jan. 1, 2016 until Dec. 31, 2016. While abroad, the squadron remained steadfast by protecting over 27,000 coalition personnel and mission-essential assets worth more than $12.3 billion.
The Army Guard’s G Company, 2-211th – the most deployed unit in the Wyoming Army National Guard and formerly known as C Company, 5-159th Aviation Regiment or “Charlie Med” – was named the other award recipient. They earned the award, in part, because of their support to numerous recent deployments which saw two soldiers awarded the Purple Heart as well as the unit being selected by the Dustoff Association for the “Rescue of the Year” award for a 2015 medevac mission that transported five casualties from an active firefight area to a combat hospital.
